Alkagesta expands biofuels trading across European supply chain
Alkagesta biofuels trading operations are connecting smaller feedstock suppliers with European biodiesel, HVO and sustainable aviation fuel producers.

Alkagesta biofuels trading activities now cover multiple stages of the European supply chain, spanning waste and feedstock collection through to sales of refined products including fatty acid methyl ester (FAME), hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and other advanced fuels. The trader sources and markets products across several jurisdictions, working with participants ranging from local suppliers to national oil companies and independent fuel retailers.
The company is seeking to link smaller feedstock providers and niche producers with larger outlets in the European market. Some of these suppliers do not have the trading systems or processes typically required in commodity markets, according to Alkagesta. Its biofuels desk provides operational structures, compliance procedures and risk controls intended to support their participation.
Connecting suppliers with European producers
Under this model, Alkagesta standardises transaction processes while helping emerging suppliers reach biodiesel refiners, HVO and sustainable aviation fuel producers, aggregators and fuel blenders. The approach is intended to bring smaller volumes into established markets while maintaining commercial and operational controls for buyers and sellers.
Niche feedstocks sourced from selected regions are a strategic focus for the business. Alkagesta said its capabilities across legal matters, trade finance, derivatives, shipping and logistics support the management of these flows. The company operates across a range of parcel sizes, from seaborne cargoes amounting to several thousand tonnes to individual truck deliveries.
Flexible execution across cargo sizes
Transactions can follow standardised procedures or receive more tailored operational management, depending on the counterparties and delivery requirements. Anthony Guida, Alkagesta’s biofuels trader and business developer, said a controlled trading environment could support all participants. He added that sharing the company’s operational and trading knowledge with feedstock suppliers was aimed at encouraging established practices and increasing efficiency throughout the chain.
Alkagesta said its wider experience as a non-refinery trader helps it identify potential delivery challenges and address operational issues at an early stage. This oversight is applied across the transaction cycle, including financing, shipment and logistics considerations, as the company handles both large marine movements and smaller inland deliveries.
The trader plans to continue working with local market participants, which it views as important to Europe’s decarbonisation programme. As the biofuels sector develops and additional participants enter the supply chain, Alkagesta is seeking business with both established companies and newer suppliers. Its strategy remains centred on combining access to end-user markets with controls designed for a complex and changing regulatory environment.
