SUISSENÉGOCE, the Swiss Commodity Trading Association, marked its twentieth anniversary this month with a celebration held under the big top of Circus Knie in Geneva. Alkagesta, the Malta-headquartered commodity trading company active across petroleum products, fertilizers, biofuels and steel, took part in the event, represented by CEO Orkhan Rustamov and CFO Orkhan Zeynalli.

The evening began with remarks from SUISSENÉGOCE President Nicolas Matter and Secretary General Florence Schurch. Matter recalled the association's origins, tracing them back to founders Geert Descheemaeker and Jacques-Olivier Thomann, who saw the value in Swiss commodity trading firms working together on shared challenges. Over two decades, that idea developed into what Matter described as a respected voice for the sector.

Schurch outlined the association's work since its founding, including representing the industry, supporting professional education, engaging with policymakers and reinforcing Switzerland's position as a global commodity trading centre. She also noted the broader network that underpins the sector, from banks and insurers to logistics providers, inspection and certification firms, legal advisers, educators, recruiters and consultants.

Guests attended a performance by the artists of Circus Knie before the celebration moved to the Cercle des Bains in Geneva. Alkagesta's participation underlines its ongoing engagement with Switzerland's commodity trading community and the institutions that support it.
