Malta-headquartered commodity trading house Alkagesta has been featured in Biofuels International after publishing record first-half results for 2026. The company reported revenue of $3.5 billion (€3 billion) for the six months to the end of June, the strongest half-year performance in its history and a result delivered against a backdrop of continued volatility across global commodities markets.

On the basis of current trading activity, Alkagesta expects full-year 2026 volumes to exceed 10 million metric tonnes, up from 8.7 million metric tonnes in 2025. Chief executive Orkhan Rustamov said the figures reflected a deliberate approach to expansion: "These results reflect the progress we have made through a measured and disciplined approach to growth. Despite significant volatility across global commodities markets, our focus has remained on serving our clients reliably and building our business on strong, long-term relationships."

The coverage also pointed to a targeted entry into the crude market and an expansion of the company's jet fuel trading volumes, alongside increased storage and logistical capacity. That includes the multi-year agreement signed earlier this year for biofuel storage at Pantank in Antwerp, which lifted Alkagesta's total storage capacity across Europe and Asia to 700,000 cubic metres.

For European counterparties, the combination of larger contracted storage and a broader product slate points to a trader positioning for steadier supply commitments in refined products and biofuels rather than opportunistic volume growth. Alkagesta is active in petroleum products, fertilizers, biofuels and steel across more than 48 countries.
