European Wind Additions Rise 30% to 8.8 GW in First Half of 2026
Europe expanded its wind generation footprint to 311 GW in the first six months of the year, supported by substantial German additions and offshore developments.

Continental European wind power installations expanded considerably during the opening six months of 2026, delivering an approximate 30% year-on-year increase in newly connected assets. Across the continent, developers integrated 8.8 GW of additional generation capacity over the period, according to figures compiled by trade association WindEurope and reported by Reuters.
The recorded growth over the six-month term was primarily underpinned by an acceleration in German project completions, alongside a marked expansion in offshore sector activity. Germany represented the largest single contributor to regional momentum, commissioning 3.4 GW of new wind infrastructure, which accounted for 39% of the aggregate capacity deployed across Europe through the first half.
Following the latest round of project commissioning, total operational wind power capacity across the European continent reached 311 GW by the conclusion of June. The half-year operational data highlights the ongoing regional momentum in utility-scale renewable buildouts.
The operational statistics published by the industry organisation underline the central role of dominant regional power markets in steering installation volumes, as cross-border generation portfolios continue to expand their offshore and onshore asset bases.
